In the last few days since Vilo hit the market, we've received a lot of user feedback asking us to provide more clarity about our Privacy Policy. We hear you. We are currently updating the official Privacy Policy to provide more detail. In the meantime, we want to give you a quick overview of the changes we’re making.
Data Collection
Many of you had questions about the context in which data is collected by Vilo. In the updated policy, we will list the data collected by Vilo devices separately from the data collected on our e-commerce website. This information is combined in our current privacy policy.
We want to be very clear about this – the Vilo devices do not and never will track the websites that you visit, your browse or search history, or any other content you may access on the Internet while connected to your Vilo network.
Data Sharing with Vendors
This is an area many of you have requested that we provide more clarity on. Vilo shares data with the vendors that enable us to perform our services. Examples of our vendors include:
- For the e-commerce website, shipping and mailing services (e.g. UPS and USPS), online transaction processing services (e.g. PayPal), and the e-commerce platform (e.g. NopCommerce), and
- For the Vilo devices and app, app development platforms (e.g. Google and Apple), data storage services (e.g. Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure), and customer service software solutions (e.g. Zendesk).
To grow our business we may run ads to promote Vilo products on social media platforms (e.g. Facebook), the Internet, over email (e.g. MailChimp), on the Vilo website, and on the Vilo app. In order to target and deliver our ads, we may need to share our customer information with advertising tool providers, which they use to deliver our promotions.
We will never sell or rent the data we collect to a third party.
Opting Out of Targeted Advertising and Promotions
If you do not wish Vilo to target you for advertising and promotions, you have these options:
- To opt out of our promotional email program, make sure to uncheck the email subscription box during the purchase process. If you have signed up for marketing emails, you can unsubscribe directly by clicking on the "unsubscribe" link in the footer of all our marketing emails.
- To opt out of retargeting or remarketing ads using information collected from your browser when you visit our website, you can do so here: https://optout.aboutads.info/?c=2&lang=EN
- To opt out of the Facebook custom audience and lookalike audience program where we may use your data to find other Facebook users with similar characteristics, you can send an email to support@viloliving.zendesk.com with the request.
